“This book made with much love, care and detail, is based on an online course I developed back in 2016, while recovering from a traumatic family experience combined with a severe period of burnout.
A close relative had just attempted suicide at home. It happened overnight and we only found out in the morning as we were ready to enjoy breakfast. “It’s weird she hasn’t come down yet. I’ll go check.”, he said as he left the kitchen. Nothing was the same ever again.
After some time, we flew into Porto on a sunny Spring afternoon and went straight into the ENT doctor (ear-nose-throat specialist), who kindly took me in on short notice. After a detailed physical examination and a reassuring talk, she prescribed me three things: 1) a head scan to rule out a brain tumour, 2) anxiety pills to help me rest while we waited for the results, and 2) frequent visits to the local beach.
After the three longest weeks of my life, the head scan came out clean! Sleep got better, and my overall state of anxious catastrophising slowly improved.
That’s when I knew...
I needed to create something to understand what had happened in my brain. Something to help me prevent this from happening again - and why not, to help others do the same. That’s how Don’t Stress It! was born.
Creating such course pretty much saved my sanity in a time of distress, giving me purpose and focus when I most needed it.
